“We knew that our investment strategy needed to reflect our commitment to supporting gospel ministry.”
After selling their house, Jonathan and Margaret Lamb knew they wanted to put some funds to work for the gospel. When they found Kingdom Bank, they discovered that opening a savings account would align their money and mission.
I’ve worked in a variety of Christian ministry roles throughout my life – from pastoral work in a church, to student ministry with UCCF and the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) in Europe and globally; then from serving as Director of Langham Preaching with the Langham Partnership, to working with Keswick Ministries in the UK and beyond.
Throughout our ministry, we’ve seen the Lord graciously provide in a variety of different ways, and have also seen the importance of gospel partnership between brothers and sisters in Christ. In all these roles, we were very well cared for but not necessarily on large salaries, which meant we never really had to think too much about where we saved our money.
A responsibility to steward with purpose
When we decided to downsize and move to be nearer to family, we knew that our house move would realise some excess funds, and so we found that we had money available to save or give away, once the house sale went through. This was an unusual position for us to be in, and we felt a strong sense of responsibility to use this money wisely, and to steward it with purpose.
We were able to give more to the cause of mission, but we also knew that we needed to put some funds aside for particular family needs. It was setting aside this money which provoked us to think about how we could do something positive with it in the meantime.
Putting our money to work
We knew that our investment strategy needed to reflect our commitment to supporting gospel ministry. I’d heard about Kingdom Bank through a video clip by our friend John Lennox, and it seemed like a straightforward way of deploying our money, putting it to work for God’s Kingdom.
Our experience of saving with Kingdom Bank has been very different from our contact with a secular bank. When we’ve had questions, we’ve been able to speak to a real person(!), and the staff have all been clear, friendly and courteous. Speaking to professional people who are aligned in their commitment to see the gospel advance has been a wonderful discovery. But most of all, we have been truly encouraged to know that our savings are being used to partner with and support gospel ministries across the country.
