Kingdom Bank has appointed Malcolm Peters as Chief Risk Officer, strengthening the Bank’s senior leadership team as it continues to grow and serve churches and savings customers across the UK.

Malcolm joins from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), bringing extensive experience in banking supervision, financial regulation, credit risk and compliance.

His career spans some of the UK’s largest regulatory institutions, including the Bank of England’s Banking Supervision Division, the predecessor to the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). In his new role, Malcolm will lead the Bank’s Risk and Compliance function, aiming to ensure that the Bank meets its regulatory commitments.

Andrew Neden, Chair of the Kingdom Bank board, reflected:

“Malcolm’s appointment as Chief Risk Officer is evidence of Kingdom Bank’s commitment to excellence and quality. Kingdom Bank has seen significant growth overthe past few years and Malcolm will play a key part in continuing to ensure that we are compliant and risk-aware in all of our activities.”

Malcolm also brings firsthand experience of Christian ministry, having studied Theology and Pastoral Studies before serving in ordained ministry in the Church of England, including helping to lead a church plant in Hull. He later returned to financial regulation at the FCA, where he was involved in wholesale conduct regulation of dual-regulated investment banks and, more latterly, led teams supervising both conduct and prudential regulation of solo-regulated firms offering high-risk consumer investments.

Paul Houghton, Kingdom Bank CEO, commented:

“We are delighted to have Malcolm join the Kingdom Bank team.  His deep knowledge and experience of financial conduct and regulation will be invaluable as he takes on the leadership of our Risk and Compliance department. Combining this with his Christian faith and firsthand experience of working in Christian ministry, he brings a unique combination of skills and understanding which will help us carefully navigate the Bank’s risks as we serve Christian churches and ministry workers.”

Malcolm comments on how he was drawn to the role by the Bank’s mission:

“I already knew about Kingdom Bank, some of its customers, and a few of the people involved. I totally agreed with what the Bank was trying to do and so there was an almost perfect synergy of mine and the Bank’s values.  From when I was first approached to consider the role through to when I was offered it, I increasingly felt this was what the Lord wanted me to do next. I’m delighted and excited to have started and look forward to helping the Bank deliver its mission.”

Malcolm joins Kingdom Bank at an important time of growth, with over £30 million approved in mortgages so far this year. The Bank is also in the process of launching a new Online Banking platform and Mobile App, enabling customers to access and manage their accounts quickly, easily and on the go.
