Meet the Team – Robert

Get to know our Insurance Account Executive Robert in the next installment of our 'Meet the Team' series.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what brought you to Kingdom Bank.

My name is Robert, and I have over 20 years of experience in Insurance Broking. I’ve also previously worked on the Railway and I’m a qualified Football Referee.

I worked in my previous role for over 10 years and whilst it wasn’t my dream job, the thought of change was unsettling. A friend of my wife who works at Kingdom Bank shared an advertisement for a job on Facebook, and I was strongly encouraged to apply for the role.

At first, I wasn’t sure about applying, but prayed about the opportunity none the less. I don’t think I’ve had many experiences of God guiding me in a certain direction in my life, but this was different, so I felt that I should make that leap to honour God’s answer to prayer.

What is your role at Kingdom Bank and what does a typical day looks like for you?

I am an Account Executive within the Kingdom Bank insurance brokering team, working alongside seven lovely colleagues. I don’t particularly enjoy working from home, so I travel into our office in Beeston and work there.

My role is to ensure charities and churches have the right insurance cover for their activities to help protect them and the people they serve. Whilst price is always an important consideration, especially in the current climate, it is important for me to outline to our customers the impact of unsuitable covers. An example of this would be the growing threat of cyber-attacks and finding insurable solutions to mitigate these risks.

How did you become a Christian and how do you find this impacts your work?

I first became a Christian when I was ten years old, but looking back I don’t think I properly knew Jesus then. When I was 20, I attended an Alpha course at a Nottingham city centre church and the rest, as they say, is history.

At times it has been really difficult being a Christian within the insurance industry, as in my experience it can be quite a competitive environment where employers and colleagues are not focused on looking after one another, but instead want to make as much money as possible.

Thankfully, I’ve found this completely different at Kingdom Bank. We are encouraged to put Christ at the centre of everything we do, and value every customer.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy getting to go and visit clients, as I get to see the amazing work that they are doing. When you watch the news and look around it can often feel like there is little good left in the world, so meeting with our clients who are going out of their way to help and support people makes you think differently.

I also like that every day is different, so I don’t feel like a droid just processing work! Our clients are very diverse and appreciate advice and attention that is specific to their context.

Where would we be likely to find you when you’re not at work?

I am actively involved with the children and youth work at my local church, but if I’m not there or spending time with my family (often being chased around the house by a three-year-old daughter), you will find me at the cinema, getting lost in a film.
