How should Christian money management look different in a world obsessed with wealth?
Here are four biblical principles that can transform how you manage your money.
1. Is money controlling your heart? Loosen your grip.
In Mark 10:17–27, Jesus meets a young man with significant wealth and a desire to follow God. He hasn’t appreciated that his love for money, and the comfort and status it brings, holds him back from being ‘all-in’ for the gospel. He is torn. Jesus is calling us to assess whether we are holding so tightly to wealth and material possessions that we have lost sight of the generosity and selflessness that God calls us to. Wealth can grip our hearts, but Jesus loosens our grip and calls us to radical generosity.
Are we allowing money to control our decisions? Or, are we ready to loosen our grip for the gospel?

2. What really lasts? Invest in eternity.
Matthew 6:19–21 reminds us that the things that money can buy are fleeting. We can’t hold onto them into eternity. Are we putting too much focus on the temporary—bigger homes, nicer cars, fancier holidays?
What would it look like for us to invest our wealth (money, time or skills) in things that have eternal significance?
3. How much is enough? Live with Kingdom purpose
On a practical level, it’s worth calculating how much income you need to live on, and what God might be asking you to do with the excess. A great way to do this is to use a budgeting tool to help you quantify your income and outgoings. This can prove useful in evaluating which expenses are essential and which are optional.

4. How does your bank use your money? Align your finances with your values.
Many of us will be in the privileged position to able to set aside some money for longer-term savings. This is part of stewarding our money responsibly. We often default to saving with the bank we’ve always banked with. But, how many of us can say that we understand how our savings are used by these banks? There is increasing concern about how banks invest our savings – for example arms, nuclear weapons and deforestation. Therefore, is it time to consider an alternative?
A bank that shares your Christian values and is transparent about how it invests depositors’ savings. Saving with Kingdom Bank means you will always know how we invest your money.
